Airplane

Hammered it was from a kind of earthbone
By a man-made earthquake; rolled and riveted
Into a semblance of our old dream of sail.

Motivated by earthblood burning,
It exhales the fatal dinosaur breath
Across the earth that bore it.

Not born to fly, when birds refused
To teach us, we turned to earth,
Galactic flyer before birds.

Now in the polyester comfort
Of our aluminum dream we soar away,
Escaping earth in a concoction of it.
